Parish councillors are all volunteers – the role is not paid. Elections are held for the available six positions every four years, usually to coincide with the SODC district council elections. However, if the people willing to put themselves forward are only enough to fill those available positions, no election need be held. Also, if there are still insufficient councillors to fill the available six positions, new members can be co-opted by the parish council.
Councillors are expected to regularly attend the monthly full council meetings, as well as serving on several of the sub-committees and working groups that carry out the detailed work of the council and manage ongoing projects. The full council elects a chair and vice-chair from its membership, and each of the sub-committees and working groups will also have a chair elected. The current membership of South Stoke Parish Council is as follows

This is my second stint as a parish councillor. I have lived within sight of the Thames in London and then Oxfordshire since 1984. I used to row competitively but now feed animals and cut grass.
My partner and I have lived in South Stoke since 2017 along with our black Labrador, Tommy. I work as a company lawyer for Invesco based in Henley and have been involved with the Parish Council since 2019.

A relative newcomer to South Stoke, having moved here in 2021 with my wife and 2 dogs.
Living directly opposite the villages only lamppost, I can normally be found either walking the dogs or pottering around in the garden with frequent refreshment visits to the local Shop.
I’ve lived in South Stoke with my husband for over 30 years and we have
3 grown-up children. I worked in advertising for several years then re-trained in accountancy, specialising in the education sector. I recently retired as Finance Manager at a local secondary school, where I’d worked for 10 years. I was a Governor at Wallingford School and Treasurer of Wallingford Rowing Club.
With Nicky, my wife of 56 years, I have been a resident in South Stoke for the last 19 years. As a Stoker I have been on the parish council (twice), chair of the amenities charity, a school governor and a director of the shop board. My career was in the engineering and construction of world scale projects, latterly I have worked as a consultant to an expert witness. As a keen vegetable gardener I have learned to share my efforts and rewards with the wonderful wildlife of South Stoke
