Buses
Our local bus service - provided by the Heyfordian bus company for the last two years - is heavily subsidised by Oxfordshire County Council (OCC). OCC therefore "call the shots" as to how many services there are per day, and the timing of those services. Unfortunately over recent years, more and more people have turned to using a car rather than the bus, and the result has been falling passenger numbers, which in turn has lead OCC to reduce the subsidy and therefore the number of services they ask the bus company to provide.
I have been working with both OCC and the local bus companies for some twelve months to see if the very poor service, could not be somewhat improved. In March 2010, we submitted proposals to OCC that would permit some modest improvements, but which would not require any extra subsidy. These proposals have now born fruit, and have been implemented in two stages. Stage 1 - which started on Monday September 6th, is simply the service that has existed for the last two years, with the addition of three extra one-way runs - shown with asterisks in the timetable below. These three additional runs will be provided by the Thames Travel bus company. Stage 2 started on 11th October 2010, and involved the operator - Heyfordian - in the re-timing of some of the existing runs, as well as an additional return run in the morning. The full revised timetable, which is now operational, is available by clicking on the link below:-
